[Xprint] Xprint & non-postscript ESC/P 2 printer

I have the printer set up using CUPS, which when set up handles the
translation from postscript.
Then Xprint automatically picks up the CUPS printers with little further
configuration (I only need to change the default printing resolution
from 300 to 600).

Subject: [Xprint] Xprint & non-postscript ESC/P 2 printer

I have the following env and need some advice on setting up a printer:

SPARC Solaris 8, Mozilla 1.5, Xprint 9, Epson Stylus Color 740/network
attached/non-postscript

Prior to installing xprint I piped mozilla print requests to ghostscript
and then to lp
If I am reading the docs correctly, I can still accomplish this using
xp_ps_spooldir_tmp_Xprintjobs or xp_pdf_spooldir_tmp_Xprintjobs.

Are there other ways to print with ESC/P 2 controls using Xprint?
Has anyone used this type of non-postscript setup and what did you do?

Thanks
