Yes. Xprint doesn't have a spooler, it uses the system spooler.

How did you test with lpr? Where did the postscript file come form?
Try printing to the above printer, whic will create a file in
$HOME/Xprintjobs. Start with a simple page, and work uop to more complex
pages.
That file should be viewable with gs or any other postscript viewer.
lprNG, just uses gs to convert the PS file to PCL for the printer, so if
gs can view it, lpr should print it. If not post that file.
I'm not sure what the mozilla print-to-file option does. It may not use
Xprint, but Xprintjobs does. BTW, the PDF version uses gs to do the
conversion.
