Thanks for posting this very useful information.  Its applicability is 
not confined to Debian.  I had previously noticed (on a 
Slackware-derived system) that xprint worked OK if a web page fully 
specified its fonts, but produced rubbish otherwise.  Your 
userContent.css suggestion works perfectly for me.
