[Xprint] Is there somewhere else to turn?

Depends on the name of the spooler. I think all of Roland releases use 
/tmp/Xprintjobs. Some of the newer Debian packages use $HOME instead of 
/tmp, but not sure of the directory name. It might be .Xprintjobs too.

I'm not sure if those samples only do na_letter, or if it uses the 
default page size in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xserver/C/print/attributes/document.

Also note, the C directory should match you locale settings. Most are 
symlinks to C, but some may be different.

Sound like xprint is working. You may have a font problem with more 
complex stuff, but the basics work. That's good.

You can also try xpxthelloworld and xphelloworld, which are a little 
more complex than the simple one.

How are you tring to print that file? just the normal spooler commands 
like lp/lpr? Can you post one of those files for us to look at?

If you can view the output with ghostscript (gs, gv, ggv and such), then 
the problem is probably not xprint.
