I've looked closer on the Fedora 1 problem, XPrint server seems to be
working properly. Example clients distributed with it print
successfully, but Mozilla 1.6 distributed with Fedora (Gecko/20040115)
doesn't contact the server at all. It was contacting with some previous
versions, though :(
If only I could get some debug info from Mozilla...
Roland, I've filed a bug 251186 in Mozilla's Bugzilla for implementing
some debugging facility for XPrint subsystem in Mozilla:
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=251186
Such a thing would probably help in this Fedora case. Stracing Mozilla
will be difficult (I think) as it has lots of threads running and does
lots of things when performing simple operations.
I'm attaching a strace of Mozilla process when I open a printing dialog
box, but I don't see anything useful there. Does Mozilla triy to
discover XPrint servers at launch instead of when opening printing dialog?
