IMHO you, being the author, can do anything with the package that you
want. But it would be nice if you do it only after properly documenting
it for *users*.
Actually I'd like to ask you to stop working on xprint itself for a
while, and just to concentrate on providing good documentation. That is
the more pressing need. Your FAQ is simply not good enough.
Don't change the default; just tell users how they can configure xprint
themselves (including setting the dpi preferences). If you change the
defaults now, you can count on getting many complaints from users asking
why the printout needs *four times* the available paper size.
And by the way, I'd love to get an explanation of why xprint does not
print the Debian project home page correctly. I asked about this in a
message entitled "no numbers" on May 20th to which nobody replied. This
is a very stable bug (at least on my system), which has persisted for a
long time despite many upgrades, xprint version changes, different
versions of ghostscript, different versions of Mozilla, switching from
lprng to CUPS, etc.
Regards, Jan (just a user ..)
