If you're using CUPS to handle print jobs for the printer, then try to
make sure you've got the best PPD (definition file) for it that you can
find. If you haven't got one specific to the Epson LQ-300, then you
might want to try the epson ppd
(http://linuxprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=epson, press on the
"Generate PPD file" button). But keep in mind this driver only lists
LQ-500 and others, not LQ-300 specifically, but LQ-300 docs suggest it
should be compatible with LQ-570+.
You could also try reducing the printer resolution used by Xprint
(see /usr/share/Xprint/xserver/C/print/attributes/document). Try using
300 or 150 instead of 600. Or maybe 240 or 288, since LQ-300 is 24pin
with 10 or 12 char per inch (i.e. 10x24=240 or 12x24=288 dots per inch).
