Sure, I'd be willing to contribute, but it looks like we're not going
to be using xprint anymore (see my last post for details), so I'm not
sure I'd be able to contribute much.

Hmmm, I'm probably not the best person to comment, but I like the
principle behind the idea - that X programs can use the same printing
interface - i.e. the list of printers is the same for each app, thus
it provides a standard way of interacting with the underlying print
system.
